“Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.”
Oprah Winfrey
Now when the winter holidays are echoing in our ears, maybe it is time to be thankful for what we have. It is always good to strive for more, to hope for more, but after you looked around yourself and acknowledge that your position is way better than others, say “Thank You” and smile. In a material driven society, the great man is not the one who drives a better car, lives in a bigger mansion, or wears designers’ clothes; the great man is “he who is in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude,” Ralph Emerson once said. Each human being was given his or her own cross to wear, so there is no point in envying others. Envy is ignorance! It is not what others have, but how much you were given.
We are the projections of our thoughts in the universe. We are what we think we are, and we have what we think we do. Nobody is in a competition with anybody else. The only race we will run is the one with fate, the one against time, our time. At the end of our lives, our actions will be based on our thoughts and on the traces we leave on others. The footprints in time will be the scale of our own valor.
So, even if you added one brick, you seeded one tree, you touched one child and you brought one smile on a person’s face, you did a lot. You accomplished what as a human being you were supposed to do. Now sit back and relax! That time of the year has come! Be thankful for another sunrise, and for another amazing sunset. All of them are gifts to you given by the omniscient universe.
Happy Holidays!
